I'm Thankful for...

This Thanksgiving, I have a lot to be Thankful for.
I may not have much but I have a roof over my head.
I've lost a lot but I still have my health.
I may not be able to walk well, but I can still walk.
I thought I was alone, but I have a few friends.
I have my cat, who always makes me smile...even when she's being stubborn.
I may not have school anymore, but I'm still learning.
I may have lost a couple of friends this year, but I've gained so much more in the terms of angels and extended family.

I won't's been a VERY. VERY. ROUGH. couple of years...but I

I thought my life was good, and two years ago I came back from a school trip to a nightmare.
I had lost my husband and my belongings all in one action....I had to start over.

You never know just how much strength you have until you are tested, and I'm happy to say I'm STRONG.
I may have lost the love of my life, but it wasn't because of anything I did...he was unhappy, he made the decision that resulted in his accident, and everything after that.

I still have a long way to go with recovering from his assault, and I may never fully recover, but I've forgiven him.  A part of me still loves him, and will always love him, but I know now that we will never be together again.  He is still unhappy with his life, and he is trying to shift the blame to me...but the truth is...I did everything for him.

I may still struggle with being alone, but I the darkest of moments I have friends that are more than friends...they're family.  I know that no matter what, I will survive...and I'm a stronger person because of everything.

I will admit...every day is a struggle.  A struggle to maintain some semblance of normal...but I have a new normal and I'm trying to find it. I struggle with self-worth, like just about all other domestic violence survivors, I still blame myself...but I'm working on that also.
I struggle with the after effects of his assault...and knowning that I couldn't have done anything to prevent it.

The Masons expelled him for a reason...he's not a good person, no matter what he says.  He lies, he is extremely violent, and he should still be in prison (but knowing him and his temper he will be back there soon).

Most of all, I'm Thankful to be alive...there are times when I doubted my reason for being here.  But I know I'm here for a reason.  Maybe it's to tell my story, maybe it's to help that one person reading this and saying..."I can do this too"
Maybe it's to make more mistakes and learn from them.

If you're reading this, let me know what you're Thankful for...maybe it will help someone else in the future.

It's really bad when you feel you're being bullied by a University!

So, yeah...I fought for my first Amendment rights.
The week that the school got the letter, is the same week that all this new mess started, and it's now spiraled so out of control, I don't know what to do.

So, I went from being nominated a committee chair to being impeached, yeah the advisor kinda let them throw the rules out of the window for that one....I wans't given a fair hearing.  They changed it after they set it for me, I wasn't allowed to change the date, but apparently they have the right to.  And then they didn't notify me that the date I never cancelled my plans and didn't show up to the impeachment the verdict (which was written 5 days before) about 10 minutes after the hearing.

Then...I was told to hand over a GMAIL account that was build for the Sergeant at Arms by another student.  GMAIL...not even a SFA email.  So, I did...before the deadline.  I told them I deleted everything, even though I put it all in one folder.  Apparently that is interfering with the living/learning environment because I had charges brough against me for Student Conduct by the advisor of the SGA, who happens to be the Dean of Student Affairs.

Then the next morning I was told that I changed the password of said GMAIL account.  I spent the entire weekend trying to think of ways to help them get into the account, and of course there was NO COMMUNICATION...

So, that's the first conduct case.  Dated:August 30.  Then there's the Erica incident.  She asked me to not talk to her, I quit talking to her, and yet the wench (for lack of a nicer more family friendly name) filed harassment charges on me.  This was September 19.  Soooo...that's conduct case number 2.

Now here's the really funny thing....
I got both letters about half an hour apart.  The first one was sent September 29, 2017 at 2:25 PM
The second one was sent September 29, 2017 at 2:52 PM.
AND...the case numbers are: 2017044101 and 2017044201
Now....doesn't this seem a little odd that two cases sent so far apart are numbered sequentially, and I get them the DAY after I told Dr. Peck that I was putting information on the internet.'s the kicker...
According to The Code of Student Conduct, Section 10.4, this is what happens when they get a report:
"Upon receiving a report of an alleged violation of the Student Code of Conduct, the student conduct administrator will review the report and, if needed, conduct an initial investigation. If there is sufficient evidence to indicate that a violation may have occurred, a notice of allegations/charges will be sent to the respondent, including the alleged incident date and the nature of the charges, with instructions to appear in person at a designated location within five (5) business days to begin the student conduct process"
Then...regarding the investigation:
"The investigator mayalso gather and examine documents and other evidence relevant to the complaint and mayconsult with appropriate personnel for advice and guidance as applicable. The investigation should be completed within 20 business days. The investigator will document any reasons for an investigation taking longer than 20 business days. The investigation includes the preparation of the report of findings and recommendations (if appropriate). "

Why then was the first case, dated August 30, sent to me on September 29, 2017, a full 22 Yes you read that right TWENTY TWO BUSINESS DAYS after the fact.
Oh yeah...the outcome of the first one:  I was found responsible because I SAID I DELETED FILES FROM THE GMAIL ACCOUNT, even though they were still there.  Apparently if you SAY SOMETHING ON THIS CAMPUS IT MUST BE TRUE...HECK...I SAY YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO GIVE ME A FULL RIDE SCHOLARSHIP AND PAY ME FOR ALL THIS BS.  Oh doesn't work that way does only works when they want it to work.

So, I go to the first hearing.  I told them that day that I somehow lost the paperwork that had a stupid survery on it regarding the Student Code of Conduct policy.  I asked for the link to do the survery.  After the third email, and almost a week later I was told that they don't give the link out again because they expect students to keep up with the paperwork...that's all fine and dandy, IF SAID STUDENT PUTS THEIR OWN PAPERS IN THEIR OWN BAGS.  As it stands, I have an attendant.  I asked him to put the papers in my backpack on the back of my wheelchair.  I asked him to put them in the big section of my backpack.  Apparently, he felt the back section that he put them in was good enough because I couldn't find these papers until almost 10 days later.
Which brings me to the new charges  (I THINK) Failure to obey a university official and providing false information to the university.

I found the paperwork totally by accident when I was cleaning out my backpack...actually I was looking for PMS stuff if you know what I mean, but it required cleaning out my entire backpack.  So, apparently providing false information to the university is a very punishable offense.

Teacher: Did you read this chapter?
Student: Yeah
Teacher: If you had read the chapter you would have seen that such and such happened, it's one of the first things mentioned.

Result: Referred to the rights and responsibilities office.  Can you imagine what would happen if every student that provides false information at one time or another is sent to the office of student rights and responsibilities.

Here's my question:  WHY ME?  WHY AM I THE ONE BEING SINGLED OUT FOR ALL THIS?  My guess is, and I'm fairly certain I'm 100% right about it, the University higher ups know that I've already filed one First Amendment complaint against the University.  I've also filed ONE ADA complaint, but several more to follow.  I'm calling the school out on their BS and inaccessibility, and I'm being punished for it.  At least that's what I think it is.  I mean, what else could it be?  Has any other student gotten into this much trouble for supposedly lying?  Has any other student gotten trouble for saying they deleted something?

There's a theme here...if they want to get rid of me, then allow me to go to school at another college.  You want to be rid of me, fine....don't fucking tell me that you want me to stay her, and that  you are still rooting for me to graduate...i can only take so much BS.  And frankly, I'm done with the BS.  I'm putting all this out there.  The Dean of Student Affairs is Dr. Adam Peck, his office number is: 936-468-7249.

I don't know what else to do with all this.  Yes there is a legitimate case here, but I can't afford the attorney to fight it.  Yes, I am very scared to go on campus to go to class, so scared that I'm to the point of taking a Xanax every day when I go on campus.  I go on campus, and then high tail it off campus every day.  I don't hang around, I have decided to shut out the entire world and just listen to my headphones every day.

If anyone reading this knows an attorney that is warm hearted and will fight for those that can't afford to, or just fight for what's right, send them my way.  I just wan tto be left alone...please let me keep my dream of getting my degree.

Regrets...and Forgiveness

Have you ever regretted something so much that it hurts you to think about it?

Have you had so much regret that you think you're not worthy of forgiveness?

All my life, I've had regrets, and these past two years, I have had my fill of regrets.

Sometimes it makes me want to crawl into a corner, or under a table and just sit there.

I mean, who would really want to be with me if they knew what was inside of my soul?  Who would ever forgive the things I've done, who is willing to forgive me if I can't forgive myself?

I believe in forgiveness because it's how I have kept my sanity.

I forgave Mr. Sosa for sexually abusing me, even though the thought of him makes me nervous and taste bile...I almost want/need to throw up.
I forgave Pooky for the fights that we had, to the point that we were friends again when he died.
I have forgiven Stephen and the Carter's for keeping Emily away from me.
I've forgiven Mike for assaulting me, and I live with that reality every day.
I forgive my parents for their mistakes...because they were doing the best that they could with the skills they had at the time.

I also believe that if you don't forgive someone, it will eat you up inside.  Me, I have to forgive because it will kill me, as much as I hold grudges.  Yeah, I may be mad for a while, but then I forgive.

I give chance after chance, everyone makes mistakes.  No one is perfect.  So, I have a question...

I'm the first one to admit I'm not perfect.  I'm the first one to tell you what my flaws are because I'm working on makeing them better.  I will never be perfect.  Even though I strive for it.
I will have my bad days.

I've lost so much this very much.
Why spend your time on this Earth with such hatred in your heart?  Why do you not forgive?
Why are you holding grudges?

Most of the things I've done, I've done because I was provoked past the point of thinking clearly...again, first to admit I have a horrendous temper...but I'm working on it.
I understand that time heals all wounds, and trust me when I say I still have quite a few knives in my back...but...why go through life hating people?  Who are you to judge?

This is just me ramblng, and I may not even be worth reading; but it was worth it for me to take the time out from homework to write this.

Remember, you could be taken from this Earth tomorrow, do you want to leave with such hatred in your heart?  When asked, "Can you forgive?" what will you say?  You will only forgive certain people, and that is if what they did isn't that bad.

Yes, Stephen F. Austing State University Lets This Happen...

My Fellow Senators,

Some of you know me, some of you don’t.  My name is Senator Marcella Cook, College of Business Senator.  I would like to let you know some things before I resign.

First, I want you to know that my resignation is not totally voluntary.  Student Government Association has been everything to me for over two years.  I can remember my first meeting after I was elected.  I was so nervous, and wondering if I was doing the right thing.  I have always put SGA first, in my actions and in my relations.  When I joined SGA, I didn’t know the first thing about anything with government.  I have always kept my opinions to myself and to a point, I still do.  However, I have always wanted to stand for what’s right.  If I don’t like a person, or group, I still do what is best for SGA.  And, right now, I don’t think my resigning is the best for SGA.  There are several reasons why.  But, I will get to that later.

I would like to point out some things from the minutes at the Senate meeting on August 30, 2017.  I will also be pointing things out from our Constitution and ByLaws.

According to the minutes from the Senate meeting, at 7:10, “Speaker of the Senate introduces a piece of business”.  I would also like to point out that this piece of business was not on the Agenda for the meeting.  Next, I would like to point out from the Bylaws of the Stephen F. Austin State University Student Government Association, Article II, Section 1, subsection C, subsection 2.
“After completion of new business, a time period must be allowed for discussion of any item not on the agenda but forthcoming from the floor.  During this open period, discussion may take place but no action may be taken unless the rules are suspended.”
It is my understanding from reading the minutes, that the rules were not suspended.  Therefore, the vote for my impeachment should not have happened.

I stated this in my original email, and will state it again.  If there are accusations against me from Dr. Tareilo, where is the proof?  I have not seen any proof as of yet.

According to the minutes, “Madam President tried to remove Marci from the factually (sic) meetings because Marci felt it was very important for her to be at the Factually (sic) Meeting.  Marci continued to go to the meetings saying she wasn’t there representing SGA, but factually members says she was.  And Marci was very much associated with SGA for her to not represent SGA”

I would like to see the proof of where Madam President asked me to not go to Faculty Senate meetings.  Yes, I did go, and still will go to Faculty Senate meetings.  I would also like to point out that while Madame President was Chairperson of the Academic Affairs Committee before she was elected, one of her duties was to “Maintain attendance at Faculty Senate Meetings…”, which did not happen.  As Sergeant at Arms last Spring,, I decided not to pursue impeachment on this neglect of duties because I was going to the meetings, though not as an official representative of SGA.  For the record, the Faculty Senate meetings have all been recorded, and you can see, if you would like, if any of my actions were inappropriate.  I can assure you that I never disrupted the Faculty Senate meetings, nor did I behave inappropriately.

When I was sent the email from Madame President, it was my belief, by the way the email was worded that the meeting was about me.  I apologize for that.  To discuss any other student, without that students knowledge though, may not be illegal, but in my belief it is unethical.

According to the minutes of the Senate meeting, “Marci doesn’t believe she has done anything wrong and she has not apologized to anyone.  Marci has damaged SGA reputation to the point that they were asked to no longer come to factually (sic) meetings.”  Let’s start with the first sentence.  I have repeatedly asked Madame President what part was impeachable, and who I needed to apologize to.  I believe in always growing and always being open to constructive criticism. Please see the attached Document, GroupMeJessie.
Next, the second sentence, “Marci has damaged SGA reputation to the point that they were asked to no longer come to factually (sic) meetings.”  I am forwarding an email from Dr. Sorenson, who is the Chair of the Faculty Senate.  In this letter, she states, “Faculty Senate has not asked SGA not to attend the Senate meetings.”  Let me point out the reason for this email in the first place.  I had emailed Dr. Sorenson and apologized if I had offended her.  I had also asked for a meeting with Dr. Sorenson to talk about any behavior that may have been deemed inappropriate, and to also learn from her.  Dr. Sorenson is the Chair of the Faculty Senate.  I expect to learn a lot from her in the near future about how to improve myself.

I would next like to point out from our Bylaws, Article II, Section 10,
“Senate Ethics and Rules Committee
A.      Primary responsibility is to ensure that the members of the Student Government Association are properly executing, upholding and acceding to the governing documents of this Student Government.
B.      The members of this Committee will be:
1.        The Sergeant at Arms, who shall Chair this committee.
2.       Four (4) senators to be nominated and confirmed by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the senate.
3.       Once a Senator has been confirmed by the Senate to hold membership in this Committee, they may not be removed from this committee unless through the process of impeachment.
C.      This Committee shall assume authority over any primary investigations of any violations committed against this Student Government’s Constitution, By-Laws, and Code of Official Conduct.
1.       The Sergeant at Arms shall have the authority to bring forward charges and lawfully initiate investigations concerning alleged violations of the Student Government Association Constitution, By-Laws, and Code of Official Conduct.
2.       All requests for investigations not originating from the Sergeant-at-Arms must be submitted in writing to the Sergeant-at-Arms and must be approved by two seated Senators within this Committee before an investigation may be initiated.
3.       All votes for official decisions shall be by secret ballot and shall be by simple majority.”

I hope you can see that
1.) There was no official investigation from the Senate Ethics and Rules Committee.
2.) Who are the four senators that have been nominated and confirmed by a two-thirds vote of the Senate?
3.) What was the result of this official investigation?

Now, for the process of Impeachment that the Speaker brought forward, I hope you will notice that this Section is under the Judicial Branch of the ByLaws.  Yes, any Senator may call for the impeachment of any SGA member. There is also another subsection that was not mentioned.
Article IV, Section I, Subsection A, Subsection 4: “There shall be due process during the impeachment and removal procedures.”
In my opinion, due process requires notification of actions.  Was there any notification on the Agenda of the impending Impeachment?  Was it “due process” to bring this up when I had a family emergency, and was on my way to Killeen to be with my mom, who is still on bed rest by doctors orders?
Also, the vote for impeachment was done by secret ballot.  However, the minutes show no record of a reading of the votes.  According to the minutes, there was no vote taken for this impeachment.
I also believe that, if I were to go in front of the Supreme Court, I would not get a fair trial.

The reason I am emailing all of this to you is to let you know that I am a dedicated Senator.  I have always conducted myself as if I was representing SGA.  All of my actions have always been for the good of SGA.  I would like to invite each of you to email me either in private, or through a reply to this email as to whether you would like me to resign, or fight for my position in this Senate.

Another thing I would like to point out is this.  The Student Government Association is supposed to have:
            Five (5) off-campus senatorial seats.
Each class will receive one (1) senatorial seat per 600 class members as of fall enrollment prior to elections.
Academic colleges will receive (1) senatorial seat per 600 students enrolled in each representative college.
Each Greek Council will have one (1) senatorial seat to represent their council respectively per 600 active members.
Last Fall/Spring, our Student Government was about 30 Senators short.  We are still about 30 Senators short.  Our school is grossly underrepresenting their students in the Student Government.  Why would we start the year out by impeaching (and getting rid of) another Senator, who has proven to be a valuable asset to SGA through their actions and recruitment efforts.

In my first year as Senator, I received Senator of the Year.  Last year, even though I didn’t volunteer for it, I was nominated for a Committee Chair in the Fall.  My Committee had three people.  Two of those three people are still leaders in this SGA.  The third graduated.  Last Spring, I was Sergeant at Arms.  During my tenure as Committee Chairperson and Sergeant at Arms, I worked with Dr. Peck on a very successful “Disability for a Day” event, which I had wanted to reintroduce this year.  My first piece of legislation was to get a United States and Texas State Flag on display on the first floor of the Baker Patillo Student Center at all times, which is still evident today.  I would like the chance to still represent this Student Government.  I believe that in giving you, our Senators, this letter, you will make the right choice.

You can call for a special session of the Senate by emailing the Speaker of the Senate.  You can vote to dismiss this impeachment.  You have power to do what is right.  I beg of you to please think about what I’ve presented, and did not have the ability to present without Due Process.  I beg of you, as Senators, to urge your leadership to do what is right.  And, if it is your wish that I not remain in SGA, please email me and let me know your decision.  You are my fellow Senators, I have looked forward to meeting all of you and working on building SGA this year.  I would still love the chance to represent myself and show you that SGA is of utmost importance to me.

Baby Steps...Sorta

Tonight marks one week since I was transferred to a different campaign.
I like the new campaign, but I miss my old one very much.
I miss helping customers and being very busy.
But, my new campaign offers a lot of challenges also.

For the last two days, I rolled to work.  There's half a mile where I'm actually on North street, and I'm scared every moment that a car won't move over or slow down.
The rest of the way I can take back streets.

On Monday, I'm taking my van to get fixed.  I'm hoping that it's just that I'm an idiot and don't know how to use the lift.

Life is going on, yet I still feel like a part of me is being left behind.
I miss my husband.  I miss being married.  I miss that life.
What do you do when your heart is torn out?
I joke and call the past two years the "Tornado" that hit my life, but in actuality it's more like a mack truck.  And, just in case it didn't do the job the first keeps coming back.

For the first time in two years, I've paid all my bills, and had a little extra.  I keep waiting for the other foot to drop.  I keep waiting for the mack truck to come and roll over me again.

Tomorrow I get my second paycheck from work...I'm scared and excited at the same time.  I'm no fool, I know that I could lose my job in a heartbeat.  All I want to do is put as much money aside as I can...I want to hide every penny I earn.  But, then again, I want to enjoy a little of my hard work.

And then...I keep having glimpses of things I've lost...and I get angry at him again.  Then I think, hope that it was the PTSD that affected him...Then I get angry again because the system, our VA system dropped him in the cracks.  To this day, I want to fight for him, to try to make things like they used to be.

I know he's still in there...the happy guy that always made me laugh.  The guy that lived 18 years in misery because he wanted to look out for me.  The guy that told me that Thanksgiving night that he loved me.  That's the guy that I miss.  That's the life that I miss.

Life Happens

So, a couple weeks ago I get an email from Texas Workforce.

Telling me that HUD looked at my case and that they are finding just cause.

Since Texas Workforce told me to sign that settlement, they're not willing to help anymore.

So, if I have any attorney friends, or anyone that knows anyone.

I have to get out of this contract that Texas Workforce had me sign...then I can go after the apartments...since Texas Workforce found just cause (I don't know because they won't talk to me anymore) I can file a lawsuit against the apartments.

It's a fairly good's a VERY STRONG case with lots of evidence.

So, I'm going to push it...and tell the world what happened to me with University they harassed me after I filed the fair housing complaint.

The parent company is DTI Investments, out of California.  They have apartments everywhere and prey on college students.  So, please, if you know anyone...let me know!

It's Been TWO years.

It's been two years since I went to Chicago.
Two years since everything in my life was normal.
Two years since I started this rollercoaster that is now my life.

A lot has happened in those two years.
I came back to a new life.
I'm no longer a wife.
I no longer live in Lufkin.
I'm no longer a member of PBL...though I hope that changes this year.
I've gravitated more towards politics.
I've learned who I am again...
For a while, I lost myself...
I forgot who I was.
I put Mike first...all the time.

My family has been torn apart.
The man that I thought I knew, have known for 30 years
So, now I'm divorced...again.  I've been absent for a while to try to get my life straight.
I still have my hard days.
I still think that I'm going to spend the rest of my life alone.
I still face the uncertainty...
I wake up scared, I go to bed scared.
The life that I once had, the security, is gone.

I've made wonderful friends.
I've learned a lot.
I've found who I am again.

You know, people ask me constantly if I were able to go back and change anything, would I do it.  My answer is, and has always been
Everything that has happened to me, everything that I've gone through, every tear that I've cried, every heartache, every fear, has contributed to make me who I am...and I wouldn't change that for the world.  Yeah, it's hurts.
IT SUCKS! But, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Two seems like a lifetime ago.

What now?

I said a long time ago, "I don't think I will ever graduate college".

And it holds true today.

Being a military wife, I had to start over on my degree plan every time I moved.  So, I'm out of financial aid...besides...I've been trying to get this degree for 20 years now.

Twenty freaking years...I've worked hard.  I've endured 2 abusive husbands, 2 divorces, and being homeless twice, yet still I perservered.

And now, I have no funding for these last ten classes.
TWO SEMESTERS...that's all that is between me and a piece of paper that i've worked very hard for.

I've had people make promises and break them.
I've done a lot.
Yeah, because I was homeless my GPA dropped...I get that...even though that's not a good enough excuse.

People like me don't get degrees, we are the ones that do the minimum wage jobs for those that do have the degrees.

I've always dreamed of having a house, and a car that is reliable.  I've dreamed of going to work every day in an office, or a classroom...I'm not picky.

TEN classes....TWO semesters....that's all that is left.

I helped my ex through college, and the deal we made was for him to support me in college after he got his degree...yeah, that didn't happen.

I don't know if I will ever be able to finish these last ten classes...right now, I have to find some sort of job...something to help out.

On the bright side...I can study for my Magic Judges Exam, and try to get better at playing Magic...maybe I can earn the money that way.

So, unless by some miracle, I have a benefactor that is willing to pay for the next semester, FOUR of those ten classes, I won't be able to finish.  If I can pass those FOUR classes, then DARS will pay for the rest of my education...until then...I'm on the outside looking in...and Hoping.

Why do you use that? That being my wheelchair...

I've had several people ask me why I use a wheelchair, and I've learned to have a great comeback for that...

I'm an overachiever!

Seriously, though...why do I use a wheelchair, when I can walk...albeit a little bit.  The answer is:

I'm an overachiever!

or  My body doesn't like me...

So, the first thing is Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, otherwise known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome.  This is the most painful disease known to medicine.  On a daily basis, I live with pain around a 7 out of 10.  For 20 years, I fought this disease.  For 20 years, I lived with the pain, sometimes so bad I would be crying.  It all came down to "how bad do I want to hurt while walking?" and what happened during a football game in Dallas.  The ex and I went to a game, and he didn't want to pay the $50 that I usually pay for parking.  There's a perfectly good parking lot 5 minutes from the stadium...he didn't realize it was the very outer edges of the furthest parking lot of the stadium.
So, I sucked it up and then I was using crutches.  During the game he had me going to get the drinks and snacks.  After the game, it was time to go back to the this time I was in so much pain I could barely walk.  So, what should have taken 15 minutes took me over 45 minutes...and it was 9/10 of a mile.  He still couldn't understand why I was in tears by the time I got to the car.

When I went to my doctor to see if there was stronger pain killers or something, he suggested it was time for a wheelchair.  So, I agreed.  Using the chair helped with the pain....A LOT!!

But, the ex didn't believe that I needed the wheelchair.  So, on March 17, 2016 we got into an argument about me using the wheelchair.  He was saying I didn't need it, I was saying I didn't want to be around him.  It ended with him assaulting me, and throwing me out of my wheelchair.  When that happened, I had abrasions on my arms and knees, but my back was also hurting...I chalked it up to me overreacting to the assault. back pain kept getting worse.  Now, I've been living with back pain for 9 years because (and here's more of the overachiever part) I have Syringomyelia, or a syrinx in my spinal cord.  It hurts, but has always taken a back burner to the RSD.

Then I went to the doctor, and he noticed my foot spasming and asked me how long that has been happening...I told him since I was assaulted.  He immediately sent me for an MRI.

When I got the results of the MRI, and went to the doctor, I told him I was in tears that morning because of the pain...getting out of bed is always the worst.  He looked at the results of the MRI and shook his head, and said to himself "I don't understand why you're not in excruciating pain."  (Keep in mind I've been dealing with RSD for 20 years, and have a VERY HIGH tolerance to pain.) He then did a couple of reflex tests, which were amusing because there was very very little movement if at all...and shook his head again.  Then, his eyes got wide, and he looked at me and said, "You are in excruciating pain" it's just that you're so used to the pain that you can deal with it a little better.  So, it has been ex gave me an incomplete SCI when he assaulted me.  This was clearly evidenced last week when I accidently had boiling water splashed on my foot.  I felt the water hit, but no pain.  We got my brace and sock off immediately, and I poured cold water on my foot because I knew...even though I didn't feel any pain, my body was feeling it.  My poor foot immediately went into spasms and my leg started cramping...for the first time since this whole ride began, my calf was actually cramping...before this it's always been my yeah I was freaking out a bit.

The verdict?  A second degree scald on the top of my foot...No, it never hurt, but I've been really careful with it.

So why do I use that thing?  (Again, it's a wheelchair, and it's OK to ask)
Again, I joke about it...tell people I'm really lazy, that I argue with stairs, and that walking is overrated.  Take your pick.  I'm an overachiever, even in rare diseases I overachieve....I can't have just one.  Yes, it's ok to ask me anything, and I will answer.  And, no I'm not the best using a wheelchair, but I can balance like you wouldn't believe.

I don't let it stop me...I participate in Amtgard and go's hard, and I use my crutches a lot.  I've even gotten brave and walked without my crutches...just as long as I have my braces on.  I've incorporated my braces into my garb...and the people at my park do try to be careful with me when I do decide to participate in the games...though it's rare.

So, if you see me walking, know that it does hurt me...A LOT...and that I'm fighting through the pain.  I refuse to let my disease identify and limit me, and I TRY REALLY HARD to do everything that I used to do.

Busy Busy Busy

So, I want to interact with ya'll and tell you more of what's going on...

I'm so gosh darn busy lately.

I think I may be a bit on the crazy side.  I've taken FIVE upper level classes this semester.
Then I have the FIVE clubs that I'm a member of.
I'm an officer in FOUR of those clubs.
I'm president of TWO of those clubs.
Oh yeah, did I mention the internship I accepted this semester?
Yeah, got that covered also.

So, as you see...if my posts are sporadic again, it's a GOOD busy!
I'm really enjoying things this semester so far, tomorrow is the end of the third week of school.

Oh yeah...I received word last night that I get to go to SFA Days in Austin in a couple weeks.
I will be taking a lot of pictures and posting them when I go! Also, I will be posting pictures of my adventures in Amtgard (also the LARP club).  Stay tuned.

Happy New Year!

As we welcome in a New Year, I want to reflect on this past year.

There have been times when I thought I couldn't go on, and there are times when I was so full of hope that it was overflowing.  There are different reasons to celebrate a new year. It could be because you have dreams for the upcoming year, or you want a horrible year to be in the past.  Or both.

In the past year I've done several things and had several things happen to me:

I fought my apartments about Fair Housing and got evicted.

I survived an assault from my ex husband which left me with an incomplete SCI.

I was recognized as "Senator of the Year" for Student Government Association.

I found a new place to live, and had to move from there because of the ex.

I finally got back on track as far as school.

I've learned to walk with AFO''s kinda interesting.

I was nominated as Sergeant at Arms of Student Government Association.

I've learned a lot this past year, and I still have a lot of learning to do.  This life is constantly changing and I'm constantly changing with it.  I've said goodbye to my marriage, and I've accepted the fact that I'm single again.  There's always room for improvement and there's always goals.  So, with that being said, here are a couple of resolutions for 2017:

1.  Get a job.
2.  Keep an apartment.
3.  Win at least one tournament in Magic.
4.  Get my Level I judge for Magic.
5.  Get Certified Student Leader endorsements.
6.  Get all three levels of CMAP.
7.  Try to repair broken relationships, and make ammends to those I have wronged.
8.  Continue rebuilding my life.

These may seem like stupid goals to some, but to me, it's showing that my life is going on, that I"m not letting HIM hold me back, that I can perservere even though my life is changed.
